I heard someone saying recently that the British have a surprisingly different reaction to music compared to every other country: Lots of other places love film, or theatre, but we Brits are obsessed with the language of noise, it can be anything, but it has to have that feeling. I hadn't really thought about it before, but whoever said it is bang-on. Some Continental peoples get it, but in a theatrical context or elsewhere, wheras we absorb music in such an obsessively different way, there's something to what he said.
